Maintenance and Management
Temporary rental of maintenance and management of art collections by museums.

These days, museums and other art institutions are forced to take all sorts of cost-cutting measures in order to survive and remain open to the public. At the same time, the maintenance and management of their art collections requires specialised expertise and skills. Since mid-October of 2007, Gerlach Art Packers & Shippers offers its customers the option of temporarily hiring specialised maintenance and management staff. The work they do is specifically related to the maintenance and management of objects in the broadest sense of the word, and is conducted on a contractual basis. All work is conducted taking into account the specific nature of the individual collection. The Amsterdam Historic Museum – an organisation with an exceptional track record – has agreed to serve as a training institute and official partner, providing the basis for Gerlach’s internal maintenance and management training. Gerlach Art Packers & Shippers has many years of experience in packaging , shipping and storing valuable objects.

Maintenance and management staff carry out a range of tasks, including: photographing objects for registration purposes; designing and setting up exhibitions; placing objects on platforms; taking preventative measures such as applying “protective layers”, sealing, supporting, building constructions, etc.; cleaning art pieces and cleaning and maintaining the rooms in which art is stored or exhibited, such as depots and exhibition halls. In short, the wide variety of tasks associated with depot storage and art maintenance/management.
